As anyone that develops Internet content on a regular basis can tell you, it doesn’t take long to produce a vast repository of useful but often dated information.
The ability to easily deliver new and fresh content has a dark side to it. Because there is so much NEW content created, that a proportional amount of old and out-of-date information is subsequently relegated to the archive of useless data-space.
As the empire of content expands, it becomes harder and harder to maintain. The bulk of time and effort is often devoted to new conquests, with precious little time spent repair the infrastructure of data that is already in place.
As a result, cyberspace is rife with dots and dashes of drivel, and it becomes harder and harder to excavate new and rich ores from the piles of rubble.
I spent about 20 hours this week cleaning up Internet infrastructure, and didn’t make a dent in what I need to get done.
I really have my work cut out for me!
