Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

Sometimes I think that selling real estate in today's market is like tilting at windmills!

Windmill on Cape Cod, Eastham Massachusetts by Richard WeisserIn the novel Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes, the title hero espies what he perceives to be giants on the horizon, arms flailing, ripe for attack. He salivates at the possibility of sufficient spoils to continue his quests,

But his trusted squire Sancho sees only windmills, with their sails turning the mechanisms that will grind the grain for bread. Sancho knows that his lord's aspirations are futile. And so the English idiom "tilting at windmills" has come to mean "fighting an unwinnable battle."

It seems that a lot of real estate agents today are indeed tilting at windmills. We perceive the huge spoils of the past, and we are poised and ready to plunder the treasuries of giant deals. And so we keep fighting the way that we have always done, with gallantry and poise, but there is one difference today:

Even after engaging in a long and noble fight with determination and tenacity, there may be no treasure in the coffers to pillage. After months of battle, we may arrive at the closing table only to find that the money will not be there ...ever.

We have slain what we thought were giants. As is turns out, they were just windmills.
